Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team hosted Wayne State for their home opener of the 2023 campaign. The Panthers grabbed a 4-0 shutout against the Warriors.
At the plate, Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) went a perfect 4-4 with two stolen bases and a run. Madden registered half of the team's eight hits. Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) and Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Ga.) accounted for all four RBIs with each snagging two.
In the circle, freshman Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) pitched a complete game shutout, her first of the season, pushing her record to 4-2. Jacobs retired five batters and allowed only two hits.
How It Happened
The Black and Gold opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back singles from Madden and Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio). With two on, Congleton singled to right field giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
The Warriors collected their first hit in the top of the third inning, she was left stranded at first. In the bottom of the frame, ODU loaded the bases with two walks and a single. Morreale was hit by a pitch, bringing in a run, extending their lead 3-0.
Ohio Dominican collected another run in the bottom of the fifth inning after collecting two hits and two walks. The Panthers added two more hits in the bottom of the next frame but left two stranded. Jacobs retired the last batter to give the Black and Gold a 4-0 shutout win.
Ohio Dominican returns to Panther Field tomorrow for a double-header against Wayne State. The first game is set for 12:00 PM with game two following at 2:00 PM.
