COLUMBUS - The Ohio Dominican Panthers baseball team heads back on the road for a true road series this weekend. The Panthers will head to Ashland, Ohio for four games against the Eagles of Ashland University.
The series will be played on Saturday (April 1) and Sunday (April 2) with both days beginning at 1:00 PM at Donges Field.
PANTHER NOTES
- Ohio Dominican split the last series with the Lake Erie Storm in Panther Valley last weekend. The Panthers won the Sunday (March 26) doubleheader by scores of 7-5 and 9-0. Monday (March 27) saw the Storm take both ends of the day with wins of 2-1 and 10-5.
- The Panthers are 11-12 overall and 4-4 in the Great Midwest as the month of April begins.
- In the South Division, ODU is tied for second, one game behind Findlay and Kentucky Wesleyan (5-3).
- Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio) finished the Lake Erie series with a .625 average (5-8), including two doubles, two walks and a pair of stolen bases.
- Hunt is hitting .400 (8-20) in conference play so far as he holds a .309/.406/.473 clip for the season.
- Jack Mathey (Copley, Ohio) leads the Panthers with a .397 average (4th in the G-MAC), 31 hits, 19 runs, nine doubles, three home runs and seven hit by pitches.
- Mathey has a team-high nine multi-hit games and a 23-game on-base streak.
- He went seven-for-17 against Lake Erie, a .412 average and is tied for the highest average (.400) in conference games.
- Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio) is on an eight-game hitting streak with a .297 batting average for the year.
- Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) has a team-high 21 runs batted in after driving in eight against the Storm.
- Michael Lesiecki (Uhrichsville, Ohio) was named the Great Midwest South Division Pitcher of the Week on Monday (March 27) after he pitched seven shutout innings in 94 pitches (67 strikes) against Lake Erie. He allowed three singles in his outing with one hit batter. Over the course of the outing, he struck out eight batters, setting a career-high in the process.
- Marshall Flynn (Heath, Ohio) threw 5.1 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts.
- Myles Martinez (Columbus, Ohio) has 8.1 scoreless innings of relief work in the conference realm and allowed two runs (one earned) in 20.1 innings for the season.
- David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) has stolen 22 bases of 25 attempts.
- In the D2 era, the Panthers and Eagles have met 38 times with an 11-27 record overall.
- The teams split the 2022 series in Columbus.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
- Ashland is 15-7 overall and 6-2 in the G-MAC entering this weekend. The Eagles took three of four from Cedarville and defeated Gannon at home on Tuesday, winners of three straight.
- Seth Schroeder leads the Eagles with a .398 average and 35 hits.
- Ben Peltz and Jeremiah Cangelosi each have four homers while Peltz holds the team lead with 25 RBI.
- Brendan Beaver holds a 1.80 ERA in 35 innings pitched (six appearances/five starts).
- The Eagles are first in the G-MAC in batting average (.342), runs (271) and hits (192) and is second in ERA (4.68) and strikeouts (199).
The Panthers will begin a five-game homestand with California (Pa.) on Wednesday (April 5) and then Cedarville on Friday (April 7) and Saturday (April 8).
