Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team returned home for a mid-week matchup against number sixth-ranked GLVC competitor, the University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds took two from the Panthers on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) went 4-8 from the plate with a double and two runs batted in. Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) recorded a .429 batting average with a team-high of two doubles and three RBIs. The junior also added a stolen base. Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) was the only other Panther to record multiple hits on the day, going 3-8.
Five different players appeared in the circle for the Black and Gold. Senior Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) came in the second game holding the Greyhounds scoreless in her 2.1 innings. Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) collected a team-high of three strikeouts in her 5.0 innings pitched.
Game One
UIndy came out strong in the opening frame collecting three hits and scoring two runs. Golden started the bottom of the frame with a single to left field, but ODU ended the inning behind 2-0.
The Greyhounds added three more to go ahead 5-0 in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of that inning, a two-out double from Stevens put the Panthers on the board, 5-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Indianapolis snagged three more runs off of three hits, bringing their lead to 8-2. Ohio Dominican answered with four runs of their own coming off of consecutive doubles from Golden and Stevens and a two-run homerun from Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.), bringing it to 8-6.
To close out the game, the Hounds homered twice in the top of the final frame to take the contest, 13-6.
Game Two
UIndy struck again in their first at-bat scoring two runs off of three hits. The Black and Gold responded in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Golden scoring Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio), bringing their deficit to 2-1.
At the top of the next frame, the Greyhounds opened with a solo home run. In the top of the fifth inning, Indianapolis collected their fourth home run of the game with a triple to add three more, bringing their lead to 6-1.
The Panthers collected two hits to finish out the game but fell to the Greyhounds, 6-1 in the nightcap.
