COLUMBUS - The Ohio Dominican Panthers baseball team will continue their conference slate at home this weekend with a matchup with the Lake Erie Storm at Frank Damian Field at Panther Valley.
The series has been shifted to Sunday (March 26) and Monday (March 27) due to weather. Both days are slated for 1:00 PM first pitches unless weather shifts Monday's start time.
PANTHER NOTES
- Ohio Dominican enters the final week of March with a 9-10 overall record and a 2-2 G-MAC mark. The Panthers split last week's home series with Malone to begin conference play.
- ODU won the first game of the Malone series 5-3 before the Pioneers took the second game last Thursday (March 16) 12-2. After weather pushed the rest of the series to Monday (March 20), Malone won game one 11-6 with the Panthers winning the series finale 9-2.
- Following the Malone series, Ohio Dominican traveled to Toledo on Tuesday (March 21) to take on the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals. ODU pounded 18 runs on 19 hits in an 18-5 win over the Cardinals.
- Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio) was .500 for the last five games, tallying nine hits in his last 18 at-bats with four runs. He had a three-hit game on Monday and followed it up with a four-hit contest against SVSU.
- Jack Mathey (Copley, Ohio) had eight hits in the last week. He has a .444 average, six runs, two doubles, three hit by pitches and two home runs with seven RBI since the beginning of the Malone series.
- He leads the team with .393 average (3rd in G-MAC), 24 hits, eight doubles (2nd in G-MAC), 14 RBI and seven hit by pitches (2nd in G-MAC).
- Mason Kurtz (Ostrander, Ohio) notched his first three-hit game on Monday against Malone in Panther Valley.
- Michael O'Callaghan (Morrow, Ohio), Jake Scherette (Brunswick, Ohio) and Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) all drove in five runs over the last five games.
- O'Callaghan and Scherette both had seven hits over that span.
- Jordan Daniels (Blacklick, Ohio) compiled a stat line of three hits, six walks and two hit by pitches last week.
- He paces the team in patience with 14 walks (6th in G-MAC) on the year.
- The team stole 12-of-16 bases last week with David Silva stealing five of them. For the season, ODU is 32-of-42 while Silva is 17-of-20 (2nd in G-MAC).
- Myles Martinez (Columbus, Ohio) threw five scoreless innings with two saves on two hits and three walks and four strikeouts.
- This season, Martinez has a miniscule 0.53 ERA with one earned runs (two runs) in 17 innings pitched.
- ODU is fourth in the G-MAC in ERA (5.72) and is seventh in average (.268)
ABOUT THE STORM
- Lake Erie is 2-17 on the season with a 1-3 G-MAC mark. The Storm dropped three of four contests to Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro last week for the G-MAC opener. Lake Erie was the home team last weekend against the Panthers.
- The Storm have picked up wins over Chowan (10-3) on March 6th and the series finale at KWC (11-9).
- Israel Espinoza holds the lead in the team categories of average (.315), hits (23), RBI (12).
- Zimba Cadiz has scored ten runs for the Green and White with a team-high nine steals.
- Landen Vance has allowed one unearned run in relief in 7.1 innings with six strikeouts.
The Panthers will head to Ashland next weekend to continue conference play.
