Panthers Welcome Warriors of Wayne State For Home Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – This weekend, the Ohio Dominican softball team welcomes Wayne State for their home opener at Panther Field. Due to weather in the forecast, the games have been pushed back to Saturday at 4:00 PM and a 12:00/2:00 PM double-header on Sunday.

The Panthers enter the month of March with a 5-9 record. The Black and Gold recently went 3-2 at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic in Georgia last weekend.

Opening First Pitch

  • Sophomore Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) was recognized to the All-Tournament team after going 7-17 from the plate with a .412 batting average. Golden led the team with six RBIs and added a triple.
  • Leading the team with seven stolen bases is junior Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio). Madden is hitting .367 on the season with 18 hits and two RBIs. Fellow junior Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) follows her with a .347 batting average. Stevens has three doubles and five RBIs.
  • Senior Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) holds the lead with 12 RBIs. Downs has 11 hits on the season with two doubles and a homerun.
  • On the mound, freshman Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) has a 3-2 record with a 3.13 ERA. Jacobs has 25 strikeout in 31.1 innings pitched.

About Wayne State

  • The Warriors are 2-3 on the year after competing at the Lewis Indoor Tournament last weekend. Wayne State ended on a two game winning streak.
  • Leading the way for WSU is Maddie Hool with a .533 batting average, going 8-15 from the plate. As a team, the Warriors have a .309 batting average with 38 hits, eight being doubles and one triple.
  • On the mound, Hayden Batton has a team best ERA of 1.20 in 11.2 innings pitched. Junior Alexis Bonk has 22 strikeouts in her four appearances. Bonk holds a 2-1 record in 15.1 innings pitched.
  • Wayne State was projected fifth in the GLIAC preseason coaches' poll after going 13-34 with a conference mark of 6-22 a season ago.

First pitch on Saturday is set for 4:00 PM from Panther Field. On Sunday, the double-header is set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM.
