Box Score 2 GLENVILLE, W. Va. – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican softball team played two contests at Glenville State University. The Panthers swept on the day, defeating Frostburg State 10-2 in five innings and Glenville State 6-4.
Senior Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) went a perfect 4-4 in game one and tallied three doubles and two RBIs on the day. Fellow infielder, Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.), led the way with five RBIs in the two games. The Black and Gold combined for 24 hits on the day.
In the circle, Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) improved to 6-2 on the year after collecting six strikeouts in five innings against the Bobcats. Against the Pioneers, senior Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) picked up another win after striking out three in six innings. Sophomore Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Ga.) snagged her first save of the season striking out one in her inning on the rubber.
Game One
The Panthers struck first, taking an early 2-0 lead, in the bottom of the second inning with consecutive doubles from Downs and Sterling. In the bottom of the next frame, the Black and Gold extended their lead to 5-0 after stringing together four hits.
Frostburg State responded in the top of the fourth inning scoring two off of a double and two singles. ODU answered by adding another run, bringing their lead to 6-2. With no answer in the top of the fifth from the Bobcats, Ohio Dominican went into the bottom of the frame determined to pull out a win.
The bottom of the fifth consisted of back-to-back singles from Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio) and McKenna Conley (Mt. Orab, Ohio). A double from Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and a single from Downs pushed the Panthers to a 10-2 win over the Bobcats, ending the game in a five-inning run rule.
Game Two
Glenville State scored first in the bottom of the opening inning off a double. ODU got on the board in the top of the third inning off an error, scoring Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio). A single from Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) scored Stevens to give the Panthers a 2-1 edge.
The Black and Gold added to their lead in the fourth after collecting three singles, bringing it to 3-1. More of the same occurred in the top of the next inning as a single from Sterling pushed the Panthers to a 4-1 lead. The Pioneers rallied in the bottom of the fourth frame with four hits to tie the score at 4-all.
Ohio Dominican made their final at-bat count, opening the top of the seventh with consecutive doubles and sacrifices to score two more. With no answer at the bottom of the frame, ODU took the contest 6-4.

Ohio Dominican looks to a busy week ahead as they travel to Wheeling on Wednesday for a midweek contest and then welcome Grand Valley State and Saginaw Valley State for doubleheaders on Friday and Sunday.
