Box Score 2 CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers baseball team took on a conference foe - the Northwood Timberwolves in a neutral site, non-conference series on Friday (March 10). The series began at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe on a chilly, windy afternoon.
The Panthers took game one 4-3 before Northwood evened the series with a 4-1 game two win.
GAME ONE
The first inning saw the Panthers come out swinging against the Northwood ace. Jack Mathey (Copley, Ohio) lined an one-out double to left field as the second batter of the game. With two outs, Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) singled home Mathey for a 1-0 lead. David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) put a fly ball over the right field fence, a two-run shot as ODU led 3-0.
Northwood cut the lead to 3-1 in the third inning and tied the game one inning later.
With the game tied in the seventh inning, Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio) broke the deadlock with a solo shot to the right field fence. Ohio Dominican took a 4-3 lead.
Derek Bolander (Oregon, Ohio) went a career-high six innings with three runs scattered on two hits and three walks. He fanned a career-high seven batters, improving to 2-2.
Myles Martinez (Columbus, Ohio) closed the door with a scoreless seventh inning for his second save of the season.
Brill, Silva and Hunt all had two hits in the game while Mathey added a hit as ODU totaled seven hits.
GAME TWO
For the second straight game, ODU started with the lead as the visiting team. Mathey doubled to right center and scored on a Silva RBI single.
Northwood gained the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
After ODU threatened in the third, the Timberwolves added runs in the fourth and sixth frames for a 4-1 win.
Michael Lesiecki (Uhrichsville, Ohio) pitched into the fourth inning, giving up three runs before Tyler Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio) struck out four in two innings of one-run ball.
Devan Nail (Elyria, Ohio) made his season debut with two batters faced in the sixth inning. He walked one and got the final out of the inning.
Five different Panthers had hits in the game, including the top four of the lineup. Jordan Daniels (Blacklick, Ohio) joined Mathey, Brill, Silva and Hunt with hits.
The series will conclude with two seven-inning games on Saturday (March 11) at 1:00 PM.
