Charleston got one run across in the first and five in the third inning, taking a 6-3 lead after the first third of the contest.
Mathey walked on four straight pitches with two outs in the fifth inning before an E5 off the bat of Knapp moved him to third base. A wild pitch allowed Mathey to score, trimming the lead to 6-4 at the halfway point.
Marshall Flynn (Heath, Ohio) tossed five innings in his second start, before turning the ball over to the bullpen in the seventh.
The Golden Eagles struck for a lead-off home run in the sixth and a pair of seventh inning runs for a 9-4 advantage against Andrew Deyhle (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Without a hit, the Panthers got a run across the plate in the top of the eighth inning. On two walks by Brill and Matthew Bame (Westerville, Ohio) and then a hit by pitch for Daniels, ODU loaded the bases. Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio) walked in a run on five pitches. The Panthers got within four runs at 9-5 as they stranded the tying run at the plate.
Tyler Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio) pitched the eighth inning, allowing a run in his season debut.
The tying run stood on-deck in the ninth for Ohio Dominican. Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio) singled to kick off the inning before Knapp walked with one out. A wild pitch pushed both runners to scoring position before the game ended with a 10-5 Panther defeat.
Marshall singled twice as the Panthers had five hits in the game. The Panthers walked eight times in the contest with Brill and Daniels walking twice each. Daniels, in total, reached base three times overall.
The series continues on Saturday (Feb. 24) with a doubleheader, starting at 12:00 PM.
