Box Score 2 ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – On Sunday, the Charger Chillout ended with the Ohio Dominican softball team splitting the day. ODU knocked off #23 Alabama Huntsville in the opening game, 5-4, and lost to Maryville, 11-1, in the next contest.
The Black and Gold dominated at the plate today notching 24 hits in two games. Junior Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the way going 6-8 on the day with two stolen bases. Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) followed going 4-6 with Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Pa.) going 3-5.
Game One
The Panthers faced off against #23 Alabama Huntsville to open the day. Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and Madden started off the first inning with consecutive hits but were stranded as the Chargers retired the next three batters. UAH struck first in the bottom of the second scoring two runs off a sac fly and a wild pitch.
The Chargers went ahead 3-0, scoring in the bottom of the third off a passed ball. The Black and Gold answered in the top of the next frame with McKenna Conley (Mt. Orab, Ohio) hitting in Golden and Morreale. ODU strung together three more hits to score two more and take the lead 4-3.
Alabama Huntsville tied it up at 4-all in the bottom of the fifth. In their last at-bat, Ohio Dominican collected three hits to score Morreale and take the lead, 5-4, going into the bottom of the frame. The Panthers buckled down on defense and ended the game on a double play between Saadie Maysonet (Worthington, Ohio) and Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.), knocking off #23 Alabama Huntsville 5-4.
Game Two
For the third time this season, ODU took on Maryville in the final game on the weekend. The Saints had a strong first inning collecting three runs off of four hits, taking a 3-0 lead early. The Black and Gold got on the board in the bottom of the third after Madden singled up the middle and was driven in by Downs.
MU had back-to-back strong innings at the plate tallying 7 hits and scoring eight runs in the top of the fifth and sixth, taking an 11-1 lead. Golden collected a hit in an attempt at a rally, but the Black and Gold fell short against the Saints.

Ohio Dominican takes a week off before heading to the 2023 NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Feb. 24-26 where they'll play five games over the course of three days.
