Darrah And Congleton Homer Twice; Panthers Down Golden Bears 16-4

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – The Ohio Dominican softball team played Miles College on the second day of the Charger Chillout. The Panthers posted double-figure runs to grab their first win of the season, 16-4.

Olivia Congleton (Belpre, Ohio) and Anna Darrah (Canton, Ohio) had a day as both collected two home runs in the game. Congleton collected six RBIs going 3-5 at the plate with Darrah grabbing two RBIs and going 2-5. Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) added four RBIs on the day.

Junior Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 2-3 accounting for three runs and registering three stolen bases. Fellow outfielder, Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) went 3-4 from the plate, counting for two runs. On the mound, Marlee Jacobs (Plain City, Ohio) collected her first career start pitching 6.0 innings with six strikeouts.

How It Happened

Madden opened the first inning with a single up the middle but was left at third. The Golden Bears scored in the bottom of the frame after consecutive hits, giving them a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers broke it open in the third with a solo home run from Darrah to open the inning. After three singles, the plate was set as Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.) hit a sac fly, scoring Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Pa.). A double from Downs scored two, putting the Black and Gold ahead 4-1. Ohio Dominican tallied three more hits resulting in three runs, growing their lead to 7-1. In the bottom of the frame, Miles scored off an error, making it 7-2.

ODU added one run in the top of the fifth with a solo home run from Congleton. In the bottom of the inning, the Golden Bears added two after a triple, bringing the score to 8-4. The sixth inning was more of the same as Ohio Dominican grabbed two hits and two more runs, leading 10-4.

The Panthers finished the game strong with back-to-back home runs from Congleton and Darrah, notching three runs. Emily Holland (Mineral Ridge, Ohio) hit a two-run double to close the inning. Ohio Dominican won their first game of the season 16-4.

The Charger Chillout ends tomorrow after Ohio Dominican battles the host, #23 Alabama Huntsville at 11:00 AM and meet Maryville for the third time this season at 1:30 PM.
