Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – On the first day of the Charger Chillout, the Ohio Dominican softball team played against Delta St. and Spring Hill. The Panthers fell in both contests by a score of 7-6 and 8-0.
Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) went 3-4 with an RBI against the Lady Statesmen. Both Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) and Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) collected three hits on the day with two coming in the first game. McKenna Conley (Mt. Orab, Ohio) and Kendrick Sterling (Crothersville, Ind.) led the way with two RBIs apiece.
Senior Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Ind.) was one of five pitchers on the mound over the two games. Smodilla led with three strikeouts in four innings pitched.
Game One
To start the day, ODU faced off against Gulf South Conference opponent Delta St. Stevens opened the frame with a single. Sterling doubled down the left field line, scoring Stevens and giving the Panthers a 1-0 start. The Lady Statesmen answered with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame, tying it 1-1.
In the third, Braxton Downs (Louisville, Ky.) singled up the middle to score Madden who reached on an error. A double from Conley brought Downs home, putting Ohio Dominican on top 3-1. DSU matched the Black and Gold with a two-run home run, tying it at 3-all.
In the bottom of the fifth, Delta St. took the lead, 7-3 after stringing together five hits. ODU rallied in the top of the seventh with back-to-back hits from Stevens and Madden. A SAC fly from Sterling moved the runners, scoring Stevens. A walk from Downs set up a SAC fly from Conley, scoring Madden. With two outs, Golden singled to left, scoring Downs from second, pulling the Panthers within one, 7-6. The rally ended with Ohio Dominican behind Delta St. 7-6.
Game Two
The Black and Gold battled Spring Hill to close out Friday. Stevens and Madden began the bottom of the first with consecutive singles but were stranded to end the inning. The Badgers had the hot bat in the second inning, tallying six hits and scoring four runs to take an early 4-0 lead.
The Panthers had the momentum in the bottom of the third after a single from Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Pa.). The base loaded after Madden reached on an error and Downs walked, but ODU couldn't convert, leaving them scoreless.
SHC struck again in the top of the seventh stringing together four hits, growing their lead to 8-0 over ODU. Katie Barnhart (North Ridgeville, Ohio) pinch hit in the top of the frame and collected her first career hit. The Badgers retired the rest of the Panthers to take the game 8-0.
