Panthers Finish Second at Davenport

AUGUSTA, Michigan - In the final event of the 2023 Fall season, the Ohio Dominican Panthers women's golf team netted their fourth top two finish of the season. The Panthers competed at the Davenport Panther Invitational at the Stonehedge Golf Club on Saturday (Oct. 14) and Sunday (Oct. 15). 

ODU finished second to Wayne State after notching rounds of 313 and 309, respectively. The team had the fourth-lowest 36-hole score in program history, a 622. The round of 309 ranked fifth in the record books. 

Senior Abbey Dillon (Bolivar, Ohio) had her fourth top five of the season as she was tied for third overall. Dillon was one of four players with a 7-over 151 through 36 holes, scoring rounds of 76 and 75, respectively. She led the team with three birdies and 25 pars. Dillon was tied for second after the first round before finishing third. 

Sophomore Sydney Devore (New Philadelphia, Ohio) was two strokes behind Dillon with a 9-over 153 in the event, finishing seventh. She shot 77 in the first round before tallying a 76 in the second round. She was one par behind Dillon in the standings with 24 overall. 

Sophomore Caroline Tragesser (Murrysville, Pennsylvania) scored 81 and 80 in her respective rounds, totaling 161 (+17) as the third-highest Panther. She had two birdies in her final round. Junior Ana Reed (Denton, Texas) was tied with Tragesser at 161 (+17). Reed had a first round 79 and a second round 82. 

Graduate student Alyssa Newsom (Granville, Ohio) competed as an individual. Newsom scored 81 in the first round and a second-round 83, compiling a 164 (+20) for the event. 

Sophomore Meg Saffell (Somerset, Ohio) had her season-lowest round in the second round with a 78 after tallying an 88 in the first round. Saffell's total was 166 (+22). She eagled the ninth hole in round two, the only eagle of the tournament. 

Ohio Dominican will play again this Spring for the second half of the season.
