Football Plays Host to William Jewell in GLVC/G-MAC Crossover

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Following two straight games against the Great Midwest's top teams, the Ohio Dominican Panthers football team will play against the William Jewell Cardinals, a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, on Saturday (Sept. 17) at 1:00 PM. 

GAME DAY INFORMATION

OPENING KICKOFF

  • Ohio Dominican returns to Panther Stadium for the first of two crossover games between the GLVC and G-MAC in Weeks 3 and 4. 
  • The Panthers will host the William Jewell Cardinals in a rematch from the 2021 season. Ohio Dominican scored 35 first half points, including 28 in the opening quarter for a 35-25 win on the road. 
  • ODU fell 28-13 to Tiffin on the road last week as the Dragons scored 21 unanswered points in the final 31 minutes. 
  • Jake Byrd (Fort Wayne, Indiana) threw for nearly 300 (294) yards as he went 22-of-36 with two touchdowns and one interception.
  • W.R. Sanders (Gary, Indiana) led the Panthers rushers with 31 yards. 
  • Ty Wiley (Pickerington, Ohio) caught nine passes for 139 yards. Austin Davis (Wooster, Ohio) added four catches for 86 yards. Both caught touchdowns of 41 and 42 yards, respectively. Wiley finished with 227 all-purpose yards after tallying 88 yards on kickoffs. 
  • Jayden Hill (Gahanna, Ohio) led the Panthers with 15 tackles while Michael Powers (West Mansfield, Ohio) had 12 tackles of his own. 
  • Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) and Eddie Miller-Garrett (Newark, NJ) each had 1.5 tackles for loss in the contest while Miller-Garrett and Jaylin Garner (Shaker Heights, Ohio) combined for a sack. 

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Ohio Dominican has only drawn eight penalties this season for a total of 76 yards, tied for 2nd in the conference with Ashland. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW

  • 4 - There have been nine running backs to eclipse 1,000 career rushing yards. Travis Whittaker became #9 last week.  
  • 4.5 - Jaylin Garner leads the G-MAC with 4.5 sacks in two games this season.  
  • 60 - Ohio Dominican  has won 60 games at home since 2004, out of 90 chances.
  • 66 - The Panthers lead D2 in 3rd down percentage (sit 10th across all divisions), converting 21-of-32 attempts.

WILLIAM JEWELL AT A GLANCE

  • William Jewell enters Columbus with an 0-2 overall record for the 2022 season, sitting with a 26-game losing streak.
  • The Cardinals have not won a contest since September 7th, 2019 - a 29-9 win over Southwest Baptist. William Jewell has the longest active losing streak in Division II and the 3rd longest in the NCAA.
  • Along with a 26-game overall losing streak, the Cardinals have lost 18 straight road games (2nd longest in D2, 9th in NCAA). The last road victory came on November 4th, 2017 against Lincoln University-Missouri (W, 13-3).
  • Head coach Mike McGlinchey is in his third season with the Cardinals, after taking the reigns in January 2020. His first season was the "abbreviated and relocated" football season in the Spring 2021. His first "full" season was 0-11 last season with an 0-7 GLVC mark.
  • In the 2022 GLVC Preseason Poll, William Jewell was ranked seventh by the head coaches.
  • William Jewell fell 37-14 in the home opener to Colorado Mesa before a 38-19 loss to Black Hills State in South Dakota.
  • The Cardinals have had two different starting quarterbacks in the first two contests of the 2022 season. CJ Ward started the season opener and completed 13-of-27 passes for 97 yards and one passing  touchdown. Bart Harris was QB1 against Black Hills State and also went 13-of-27 passing. Harris tallied 94 yards with two interceptions.Ward is listed as the starter for week 3 after being sacked seven times in the opener.
  • Keaundre McCollough is the leading rusher for the Cardinals with 96 rushing yards on 27 carries. Tabren Yates is second in rushing with 48 yards and the only rushing touchdown.
  • Winston Quinn has eight catches for 90 yards through two games with one touchdown. Marquis Whitmire also had eight catches for WJU with 55 yards. Keavian Long has the second William Jewell score out of his four catches.
  • The Cardinals have five interceptions on the season, sitting third in Division II. Carson Anderson, Sean Mitchell, Ethan Reynolds, Ethan Fuentes and Kwesi Hooks all have picked off opposing quarterbacks in the first two games. Hooks ran back his INT for a pick-six.
  • Adam Callahan is the top tackler on defense with 16 tackles (1.5 tackles for loss) with Kian Betancourt following close behind with 15 stops.

UP NEXT

  • Ohio Dominican will host the second leg of the GLVC/G-MAC scheduling alliance as the #19-ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds will come to Panther Stadium next Saturday (Sept. 24) at 1:00 PM.
