Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican softball team continues its incredible run in the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Tournament. The Black and Gold forced a decisive title game by way of a thrilling 2-1 victory in eight innings in game one. The victory gives the Panthers a fourth consecutive win and forces a "win or go home" scenario for Saturday afternoon's title game.
The Trojans fired the opening salvo in the bottom of the first inning of an RBI single from Grace Kirby plated Kendall Andrews to give TNU a 1-0 lead.
ODU responded in the second inning as Erika Case (Holland, Ohio) opened the inning and got aboard as she was hit by a pitch. A sacrifice bunt from Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) moved Case to second base and a single from Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) moved case to third base.
Senior Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) tied the game as her sacrifice bunt plated Case and moved Stevens to second base to even the score at 1-1.
Neither team tallied a run as Long held the Trevecca bats silent. The Panther senior pitched eight innings, allowing one run and striking out five batters.
NEXT GAME
The Panthers victory sets up a decisive game two in which either team can claim the title with the victory. Back on April 23 the Panthers claimed an 8-0 victory in the second game of the series against Trevecca Nazarene.
An ODU victory will give the Panthers a second consecutive G-MAC tournament championship and lock up a spot in the NCAA Division II softball tournament.
