Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican baseball team suffered a pair of setbacks during Saturday's home doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Panthers dropped Game One, 6-5, before falling in the series finale, 16-3. ODU goes to 9-17 (3-9 G-MAC), while KWC improves to 11-19 (9-7 G-MAC).
GAME ONE
Ohio Dominican jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. Jack Mathey (Copley, Ohio) highlighted the rally with a run-scoring double to left field.
Kentucky Wesleyan then scored five unanswered runs, including four unearned runs in the top of the fourth to capture a 6-3 advantage. Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio), bunt single, and Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio), walk, led off the bottom half of the fourth for ODU and both scored to close the Panther deficit to 6-5.
Despite two scoreless innings in relief from Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) on the mound, ODU was retired in order in each of the final three innings to fall by a final score of 6-5. Brill struck out two of the six batters he faced.
Mathey posted a pair of doubles in the game, while Michael Knapp (Elyria, Ohio) collected two hits and drove in a pair to lead the Panther offensive attack.
GAME TWO
Kentucky Wesleyan went in order in the top of the first inning, but then scored at least once in each of the final eight frames. The Purple Panthers tagged ODU for three-plus runs in the second, sixth and eighth innings, and outhit ODU 19-2.
Ohio Dominican scored on sac flies in the fourth and seventh innings, before Jesse Kramer (Strongsville, Ohio) drove in a run in the bottom of the ninth. David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) doubled and scored in the fourth, while Matthew Bame (Westerville, Ohio), in his collegiate debut, singled in the ninth and later crossed home plate.

The Panthers will continue G-MAC play with a four-game series at Walsh over a three-day stretch, April 8-10.
