Box Score 2 CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Ohio Dominican softball extended its overall winning streak to 10 games with a series sweep over Cedarville University on Thursday afternoon. The Black and Gold claimed a 2-0 victory in game one and held on to claim a 3-2 victory in the series finale.
The wins tie ODU for the ninth longest winning streak in the nation. The Panthers join Arkansas Tech and the University of Indianapolis with 10 consecutive wins. On the road the Black and Gold are tied for the sixth-best winning streak, claiming eight straight wins away from Sunbury Road.
GAME ONE
Both Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) and Casey Bertke from Cedarville were dealing out of the circle to begin the contest. The pitchers combined to allow just two hits through five innings. The Black and Gold would breakthrough in the fifth as Alli Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) drew a walk to get on base. She would advance to second base following a groundout to the shortstop. A double down the left-field line off the bat of freshman Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) punched in the first run of the contest.
Another freshman would put her mark on the game in the sixth inning. Liana Morreale (Gibsonia, Pennsylvania) hit a single to second base that allowed a runner to score and deliver the insurance run needed to carry the visitors to a 2-0 victory.
GAME TWO
Cedarville fired the opening salvo in game two, tallying the first run of the contest in the bottom of the second inning to grab a 1-0 advantage. Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) tied the contest in the top of the fourth inning as her solo home run flew over the left field fence and tied the game at 1-1.
An RBI double from the Yellow Jackets allowed the hosts to regain a 2-1 advantage heading into the top of the fifth inning.
Two Panthers were retired via the strikeout but timely hitting from Gracie Jo Thompson (Ashville, Ohio) allowed the second-year catcher to double to left field. She advanced to third on a throwing error from the left fielder.
Madden returned to the dish and drove in Thompson with an RBI single up the middle. An RBI double off the bat of Madison Shemwell (Owensboro, Kentucky) allowed Madden to score and deliver the Black and Gold to a 3-2 victory.
