Box Score 2 OWENSBORO, KY – The Ohio Dominican softball team began play in the Blue Bridge Battle hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon, tussling with two top-tier teams. ODU battled seventh-ranked University of Indianapolis to begin the day and finished their first day of the tournament against the University of Southern Indiana.
GAME ONE
ODU opened the day with a rematch from the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional as they faced off against the University of Indianapolis.
The Greyhounds began the day strong, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. Braxton Downs (Louisville, Kentucky) and Addison Smodilla (Terre Haute, Indiana) collected the only two hits for the Black and Gold during the morning session.
Smodilla pulled double duty as she was featured in the circle, pitching 3.1 innings. Unfortunately, the strong start allowed UIndy to claim a 9-0 victory over the Panthers to begin the day.
GAME TWO
Southern Indiana jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and extended their advantage to 7-0 at the end of the third inning. ODU responded as Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) doubled to left field to open the fourth inning. She came around to score following another double off the bat of Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) to cut the lead to 7-1.
Madison Shemwell (Owensboro, Kentucky) added an RBI single in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Panthers fell 10-2 in the afternoon contest.
UP NEXT
ODU has two more contests in the Blue Bridge Battle, squaring off against Wheeling University and Quincy University on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 PM.
