Panthers and Timberwolves Renew Series on Road

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers football team is heading north to renew their series with former GLIAC now current G-MAC foe, the Northwood Timberwolves on Saturday (Nov. 5) afternoon at 1:00 PM. 

For the first time in six years, the Panthers and Timberwolves will face off in Hantz Stadium for the penultimate regular season game. 

GAME DAY INFORMATION

OPENING KICKOFF

  • ODU bounced back from a loss at Ashland with a 49-7 win over Kentucky Wesleyan on October 22nd before the bye week.
  •  
    Jake Byrd (Fort Wayne, Indiana) threw for 158 yards passing as he was 14-of-24 for the day with three passing touchdowns. 
     
  • Andrew Wolf (Ashland, Ohio)  had four catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns receiving. 
  • Michael Powers (West Mansfield, Ohio) was named G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week after his two defensive score day. Powers had a 20-yard fumble return and a 57-yard pick six to go with six tackles and a fourth down fake punt conversion.
  • Kaiden Koch (Grafton, Ohio) was perfect from the field in kicking as he nailed all seven extra point tries.
  • ODU picked off four passes for the second time this season at home. 
  • Darryl Sinclair (Solon, Ohio) and Godwin Joe (Cleveland, Ohio) came up with interceptions while Dimitri Mitsopoulos (Toledo, Ohio) took a INT to the house from 48 yards.  
     
  • Eddie Miller-Garrett (Newark, NJ) and Blaine Swartzmiller (Attica, Ohio) both forced fumbles in the game for ODU. Miller-Garrett forced the fumble on Powers' scoop-and-score.  
  • Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) led the Panthers defense with eight tackles. 
  • With three defensive scores, Ohio Dominican finished 279 yards of total offense to Kentucky Wesleyan's 283. 
  • ODU won for the 14th time in 16 tries after a loss under the direction of Kelly Cummings, who is now tied for the most wins in ODU history (46). 
  • With 22:20 of time of possession, Ohio Dominican won a game with under 23 minutes of TOP for the first time since October 6, 2019 at Walsh (21:29).
  • Kelly Cummings can pass Bill Conley for most all-time wins at Ohio Dominican as head coach with his next win.

NUMBERS TO KNOW

  • 4 - Ohio Dominican has had four G-MAC Players of the Week this season (Garner, Roop, Sinclair and Powers). 
  • 6 - Ohio Dominican and Northwood face off for the first time in six years (2016) when both teams were in the GLIAC. 
  • 11 - The Panthers have 11 takeaways in the air, with five fumble recoveries on defense. 
  • 49 - Andrew Wolf leads all active NCAA WR with 49 touchdown catches. 

NORTHWOOD AT A GLANCE

  • Northwood enters the penultimate week of the regular season with a 2-7 overall record and 1-5 mark in G-MAC play. 
  • The Timberwolves have dropped seven straight games after an 2-0 start for the 2022 season. 
  • Northwood defeated Kentucky Wesleyan and Madonna before falling the last seven games.
  • They have been defeated by ranked opponents #23 Saginaw Valley (35-14) and #9 Ashland (56-17) as well as currently ranked #13 Davenport (51-17). Those three teams are a combined 17-2 this season. 
  • For the season, Northwood averages 20.3 points scored, 116.1 rushing yards, and 156.2 passing yards per game on offense. The Timberwolves are allowing 33.2 points, 164.1 rushing yards and 269.4 passing yards per contest.
  • Overall on offense, the Timberwolves sit ninth in rushing, seventh in scoring, eighth in total offense, and ninth in rushing. For the defense, Northwood is seventh in scoring, and ninth in total defense, rushing and passing. 
  • In losses, Northwood is being outscored 286-90, including giving up 40+ points in four of seven losses. 
  • The Week 8 loss at Lake Erie was the only one-possession game this season. 
  • Turnovers have become an issue for Northwood as the Timberwolves have gone from a +8 turnover margin in the first two games to a -5 deficit, including a -13 margin in the last seven losses. 
  • Leonard Haynes is in his seventh season as head coach after spending 21 years as an assistant coach. Haynes took over the program in 2015 and led the Timberwolves to a 7-4 record in 2017. Since then, Northwood has a 7-33 record. 
  • In the 2022 G-MAC Preseason Poll, Northwood was selected for an sixth place finish, earning 22 votes. The Timberwolves went 1-9 overall in their final season in the GLIAC. This is Northwood's first year as a member of the G-MAC. 
  • Nate Gomez has been under center in all nine games this season, tallying 1,222 passing yards on 102-of-192 passes with six touchdowns and 11 interceptions. 
  • Brec Alward paces the rushing attack as 14 players have a carry on the ground. Alward has 115 carries for 453 yards with four touchdowns. 
  • 16 different players have an catch, with six players having ten or more catches. Shamarr Wright leads the way with 21 catches for 206 yards. John Hall has a team-high 390 yards and six touchdowns. 
  • Max Gonos has made 10-of-12 field goals with a long of 43 yards, along with 21-of-22 extra points. 
  • Mahlon Slaughter and Jace Parrish are tied for the team lead with 57 tackles. Slaughter leads the Timberwolves with 9.5 tackles for loss. 
  • JeMarrlowe Sykes is leading the sack category with six sacks on defense along with 6.5 tackles for loss. 
  • Obie Ricumstrict has the only interception return for a touchdown as five different players have one. 
  • Brock Cook has recovered two of Northwood's seven fumbles. 
  • Bryan Kinley has 483 kick return yards and is the all-purpose yards leader for Northwood. 

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers will return to Panther Stadium for the regular season finale against the Hillsdale Chargers on Saturday (Nov. 12) at 1:00 PM. That will serve as Senior Day.
