COLUMBUS, Ohio - The second leg of the road back-to-back swing for the Ohio Dominican Panthers football team takes them to Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field for a showdown with the #6/11 Ashland Eagles on Saturday (Oct. 15) night. The Panthers and Eagles will meet in Week 7 of the 2022 season.

OPENING KICKOFF

The current road swing for the Panthers takes the team to Ashland, Ohio for a matchup with the #6/11 Ashland Eagles.

ODU won their 2nd straight contest, a 38-7 win over Lake Erie last Saturday (Oct. 8), including a 21-point fourth quarter.

Jake Byrd (Fort Wayne, Indiana) threw for 220 yards passing. He was 24-of-32 for the day with two touchdowns along with one interception.

Andrew Wolf (Ashland, Ohio) caught eight passes for 67 yards.
Austin Davis (Wooster, Ohio) caught six passes, including a 56-yard TD pass.
Drysten Crallie (Columbus, Ohio) found the end zone for a 16-yard score - his first career touchdown.

Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) led the Panthers with 105 yards rushing, his 2nd career rushing game with 100+ yards. He scored one touchdown on the ground (4 yard TD).

Jaylin Garner broke the ODU program record for sacks with a sack in the 4th quarter.

The Panthers held the 6th best passing offense in Division II to 132 yards and only 165 yards of total offense.
- Darryl Sinclair (Solon, Ohio) paced the Panthers with 132 all-purpose yards, following an 99-yard kickoff return to open the contest. Sinclair was named Great Midwest Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday.

- 5 - This will be the fifth matchup between ODU and Ashland, where Ashland is ranked nationally (2nd in the top ten) and in ten games, Ohio Dominican has won five games against Ashland in the series.
- 21 - ODU scored 21 points in the 4th quarter at Lake Erie, the highest 4th quarter output since 9/10/16 against Findlay.
- 99 - Darryl Sinclair started the Lake Erie contest with a 99-yard kickoff return, the fifth KO return for a touchdown in program history.

Ashland enters the contest Saturday with a 5-0 overall and 3-0 conference record, winners of six straight contests dating back to last season.

The Eagles shutout the Walsh Cavaliers last week 35-0 after a 28-point first quarter.

Ashland got a pair of fumble recoveries (one offensive and one defensive) and blocked punt recovery to go along with two offensive touchdowns.

After Walsh fumbled the first play of the game, Johron Johnson picked up a fumble in the end zone on a 24-yard run on offense. Logan Hehman recovered a blocked punt by Cayman Williams. Chris Julian had a scoop and score for the Eagles.

For the season, Ashland averages 36.8 points scored, 209.4 rushing yards, and 200.0 passing yards per game on offense. The Eagles are allowing 9.6 points, 77.8 rushing yards and 126.2 passing yards per contest. They lead the G-MAC in scoring offense, scoring defense, total defense, rushing offense and defense and passing defense. In D2, Ashland's defense sits first in first down defense, third in scoring and total defense and sixth in passing.

Overall, Ashland has outscored opponents 184-48 in the first five games - the fewest points allowed in five games since 1991.

Lee Owens is in his 19th season at the helm of Ashland, compiling a 132-59 record. He has led the Eagles to the NCAA playoffs five times and 77 times being ranked in the AFCA Top 25 Poll.

In the 2022 G-MAC Preseason Poll, Ashland was selected for an third place finish, earning 52 votes and two first place votes. The Eagles were 5-5 in 2021 with a 4-3 G-MAC mark.

Ashland was ranked 6th in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll for the second straight week. In the D2football.com poll, Ashland was moved up one spot to 11.

Austin Brenner has completed 75 passes of 117 attempts for 913 yards this season for 913 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. Trevor Bycznski has followed with 11 completions of 27 tries for 82 yards in four games.

Gei'vonni Washington and Larry Martin are the two-headed monster on offense in the backfield. Washington has 58 carries for 395 and six touchdowns while Martin carried the ball 63 times for 377 yards and five touchdowns.

Logan Bolin is the leading target at WR with 21 catches for 351 yards receiving with two scores. Malik Woodridge and Washington have caught the ball 15 times for 162 and 134 yards, respectively.

A.J. Rhodes has made four-of-five field goal attempts and is 17-of-18 on extra points, totaling 29 points.

Jourdan Swett has a team-high two interceptions as Ashland has seven interceptions as a team.

Michael Ayers leads the team with 36 tackles, including a team-high 6.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles.

Deeb Alawan has 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
