Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior Callan Myers (Hillsboro, Ohio) scored her first goal of the season to give the Ohio Dominican women's soccer team a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ursuline College at Sunbury Road on Thursday evening.
Myers goal lifted the Black and Gold to victory and gave the junior the fourth game-winning goal of her career.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ursuline came out swinging in the opening moments of the match, notching the first goal in just the ninth minute of action. Midfielder Odessa Strizzi collected a pass and dribbled into the penalty area and beat goalkeeper Jadelyn McNerney (Springboro, Ohio) to give the visitors the 1-0 advantage.
ODU head coach Reilee DuPratt went to her bench and called on sophomore forward Bailey Sedlak (Bellbrook, Ohio) to join the attack in search of an equalizer. The second-year forward leveled the game in the 29th minute as she tallied her goal from near the six-yard box to tie the game at 1-1.
The Panthers captured the lead in the 55th minute as senior Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) finished an opportunity off of a cross from sophomore Alex Garver (Springboro, Ohio) to give the Black and Gold the 2-1 lead.
Ursuline had a breakaway in the 84th minute but was denied as McNerney was ruled the last defender and fouled the Arrows attacker. As a result, she was shown a red card and was replaced by classmate Kaitlin Grady (Twinsburg, Ohio). Just two minutes later the visitors equalized as a scramble in front of the net allowed Kelsey Lee to bring Ursuline level in the dying minutes of regulation.
For the fourth consecutive match, the Panthers found themselves locked in overtime with a G-MAC opponent. Neither club could find the back of the net in the first overtime period and the second overtime would need to be played.
Before the second overtime period kicked off, a power outage at Panther Stadium rendered the lights and scoreboard out of commission for a short period of time. Once the scoreboard was up and running, the teams made the decision to play sans stadium lights as dusk approached in Central Ohio.
With seven minutes remaining, Myers struck for her game-winning goal as Buck linked up with the third-year forward to deliver the Panthers first victory.
UP NEXT
Panther players and fans can catch their collective breath as the Black and Gold enjoy a brief hiatus before returning to action. ODU opens the month of October on the road against Ashland University on October 7.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
