Komminsk Reaches Milestone Moment as Baseball's G-MAC Tournament Run Concludes

MASON, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican baseball team saw its 2021 Great Midwest Tournament run come to an end Thursday evening, falling to Kentucky Wesleyan in Game 10 of the event, 11-4. 

Ohio Dominican conceded the first seven runs of the game and could not recover, exiting the tournament after three games played, moving to 28-11 overall.  

Kentucky Wesleyan, the No. 4 seed, improved to 2-1 in tournament action and will continue its journey in the consolation bracket on Friday.  

MILESTONE MOMENT 

  • Graduate senior Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio) picked up two hits in four at-bats, giving him 100 career hits.  

  • Komminsk has a career-high 50 hits this spring. 

  • For his career, the senior has a .296 batting average. 

BOX SCORE NOTES 

  • Ohio Dominican was held to seven hits in the game, with Komminsk and Danison leading the way with two each.  

  • Danison tripled twice to center field and drove in two runs. 

  • Sophomore David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) also drove in a pair of runs, as he classmate Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) and freshman Michael McFadden (Brunswick, Ohio) collected one hit each. 

  • Freshman Andrew Deyhle (Cincinnati, Ohio) highlighted a four-pitcher effort for ODU, throwing a scoreless ninth inning.  

  • KWC outhit ODU 15-7, with the top four batters in the Purple Panther lineup combining for eight hits.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • KWC jumped out to an early lead with a run on two hits in the top of the first inning.  

  • Ky. Wesleyan ultimately scored the first seven runs of the game.  

  • ODU got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth with back-to-back triples from Brill and Danison with one out.  

  • Silva followed with an infield single to score Danison, cutting the ODU deficit to 7-2 through six complete. 

  • The Panthers were only able to scratch across two additional runs late, falling 11-4. 

  • Danison's second triple scored Komminsk, who led off the eighth with a base hit to center field.  

SEASON SUMMARY 

  • ODU is now 28-11 overall. 

  • The Panthers are under consideration in the most recent NCAA Division II Midwest Regional poll. 

  • ODU will find out if it qualified for the national tournament on Sunday, May 23, with the selection show at 10 p.m. on ncaa.com.
