Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Scott Rouse (Hinckley, Ohio) tossed a one-hit gem to highlight Ohio Dominican baseball's doubleheader split at home with Cedarville on Friday.

Behind Rouse's effort, the Panthers took the first game 6-0. Cedarville rallied to take the second half of the doubleheader, 14-8.

With the split, ODU moves to 11-5 overall and 3-5 in Great Midwest play. Cedarville finishes the day with a 9-9 overall mark and is 6-4 in the G-MAC.

GAME ONE SUMMARY

  • Rouse was efficient in the first nine-inning complete game of his collegiate career, tossing 105 pitches, with 73 recorded as strikes. The freshman struck out a season-high eight batters, which broke his previous mark of seven that he had set three times this spring.
  • Ohio Dominican opened its scoring with a four-run third. Sophomore Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio) led off the frame with a triple.
  • Three other Panther batters doubled in the inning to give the Black & Gold the 4-0 advantage.
  • ODU tacked on unearned runs in the fifth and sixth innings to complete its scoring for the opener.
  • After allowing a base hit in the bottom of the third, Rouse retired 18 consecutive Cedarville batters. The only other Yellow Jacket to reach base came on a walk with two outs in the ninth.
  • Rouse completed the shutout by striking out three batters in the final frame.
  • Hunt headlined the offensive efforts for ODU in Game One, going 3-for-4 with the third-inning triple.

GAME TWO SUMMARY

  • The Panthers had just one hit through three innings, but still led 3-1.
  • ODU stole four bases over the first three frames, including three from junior Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio).
  • Staab then ripped a two-run triple in the fourth inning and later scored on a base hit from graduate senior Roger Danison (Carroll, Ohio) to give ODU a 6-1 lead.
  • Freshman Michael Lesiecki (Urichsville, Ohio) started Game Two on the mound for ODU and worked out of several jams, allowing just two runs over five complete innings of work. Lesiecki walked just one batter and struck out six, including the final batters of the fourth and fifth frames with runners in scoring position.
  • Cedarville took advantage of four hits, and 10 combined walks and hit by pitches to post a 12-run sixth inning. After the rally, the Yellow Jackets led 14-6.
  • The Panthers mustered one run in the sixth and seventh innings on RBI doubles from sophomore Alex Brill (Amherst, Ohio) and freshman Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio).

BOX SCORE NOTES

  • Hunt finished the day 4-for-6 at the plate to lead the Panthers. The infielder scored three times and a pair of walks gave him a .750 OBP for the doubleheader.
  • Staab add three hits over two games and led the Panthers with five runs scored and four stolen bases.
  • The 6-0 win in Game One marked the program's first shutout win since May 4, 2019, a 1-0 decision against Hillsdale.
