Box Score 2 AKRON, Ohio – Graduate seniors Roger Danison (Carroll, Ohio) and Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio) provided five hits each, including four each in Game Two, as Ohio Dominican baseball wrapped up its weekend series at Great Midwest rival Malone.
Like Day One of the series, ODU dropped the opening game (6-2), before rallying for a Game Two victory (7-2). Ohio Dominican leaves the weekend with 15-7 overall and 7-7 G-MAC records. Malone is now 11-16 overall and 6-14 in conference play.
Danison and Komminsk were 5-7 and 5-8, respectively, at the plate, scoring a combined four runs. Sophomore Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio) was 3-7 with two runs and two RBI.
GAME ONE SUMMARY
- Malone jumped out to an early lead in Game One, soring five runs before logging their second offensive out in the bottom of the first inning.
- Both sides scored a run in the second inning, giving the Pioneers a 6-1 advantage in the seven-inning contest.
- Hunt drove in ODU's first run with a base hit in the second frame.
- The only other run tallied was by the Panthers as sophomore David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) hit a two-out single to score freshman Lane Marshall (Wooster, Ohio).
- Graduate senior Danny Matic (Highland Heights, Ohio) tossed 2.0 innings in relief, allowing one run and three hits, striking out three batters.
- Pitching the final 3.2 innings was freshman Andrew Deyhle (Cincinnati, Ohio), who surrendered five hits, but no runs.
GAME TWO SUMMARY
- Danison and Komminsk combined for eight of ODU's 13 hits.
- Redshirt freshman Myles Martinez (Columbus, Ohio) earned his second win of the season, pitching 2.1 innings in relief, not allowing a hit.
- Komminsk homered in the top of the first inning for the first of his two extra-base hits in the game.
- ODU opened the fourth frame with three consecutive hits, which led to three runs. Hunt highlighted the rally with a base hit up the middle. The Panthers led 4-2 after four complete.
- Two more Panthers scored on a Danison single in the seventh, while the final score came on a Komminsk base hit in the eighth innings.
- Marshall tossed three scoreless innings, conceding two hits while picking up his first career collegiate save.
UP NEXT
- Ohio Dominican is scheduled to conclude the road portion of its regular season with a four-game series next weekend at Ohio Valley.
- The Panthers and Scots open the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m., Friday, April 16.
