Box Score MASON, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican baseball team scored six runs over the first three innings Sunday afternoon at Prasco Park, cruising to a 10-5 win over Notre Dame (OH).
The Panthers finished a busy weekend a little over one hour from campus with a 4-0 record. ODU defeated both Notre Dame and Findlay each twice, scoring five-plus runs in all four outings. The Falcons conclude the opening weekend 1-2.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Three Panthers finished with multi-hit efforts, led by senior Jace Komminsk (Westerville, Ohio), who went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI.
- Junior Thomas Staab (Bellville, Ohio) and sophomore David Silva (Tontogany, Ohio) each registered two hits, combining for three runs scored.
- Posting two of ODU's four stolen bases was sophomore Brennen Hunt (Ashland, Ohio). Hunt also tallied one of six extra-base hits for the Panthers.
- Overall, ODU enjoyed an 11-7 edge in hits. The Panthers logged four doubles and a pair of triples, while holding NDC to two extra-base hits.
- On the mound, junior Brendan Hofacre (Chardon, Ohio) won his Panther debut, starting the game and pitching 5.1 innings. Hofacre allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three batters.
- Freshman Andrew Deyhle (Cincinnati, Ohio) made his collegiate debut as well, pitching a scoreless 0.2 innings in relief.
- Recording the final nine outs for the Panthers was freshman Derek Bolander (Oregon, Ohio), who allowed two unearned runs in the ninth and struck out three batters to earn his second save in as many games.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
- The Black & Gold jumped on the Falcons in the top of the first, as three hits led to three runs. Highlighting the rally was a two-out double to left field from Komminsk, which scored a pair of runs.
- Silva and sophomore Derek Kutrubs (Brunswick, Ohio) each drove in a run in the third, and Silva crossed home plated on an errant pick off attempt by the NDC catcher, giving ODU a 6-0 lead.
- Notre Dame had its first three batters reach in the bottom of the sixth and took advantage by logging three runs in the half inning. ODU still led 6-3 through six full frames.
- ODU kept its three-run advantage until the top of the ninth when triples from junior Zac Wilson (Hamilton, Ohio) and Staab started a four-run rally. Komminsk also doubled in the final inning which saw the Panther lead extended to 10-3.
- A two-out home run by the Falcons in the bottom of the ninth made the final score 10-5 in favor of ODU.
UP NEXT
- The Panthers will return to Columbus during the week before traveling to eastern Ohio for a four-game set against Fairmont State, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 6.
- All four games will be played at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.
