Late Inning Rallies Down Softball Against UMSL and Truman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Ohio Dominican's softball team dropped a pair on day three of The Spring Games falling 7-4 in game one to Missouri-St. Louis before playing their fourth extra inning game in three days, falling 1-0 to Truman in the night cap.

In game one, the Tritons jumped on the Panthers with a pair of runs in the first inning. After a scoreless second inning for both teams, the Panthers would trim their deficit in half with a run in the bottom half of the third.

Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Ind.) led off the inning with a single and after a sac bunt and a ground out, Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) reached on an error that allowed Hackerd to score.

Three runs in the fifth inning for the Panthers gave them a 4-2 lead. Hackerd and Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) led off the inning with singles. With runners on first and second, a Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) bunt with an error from the catcher allowed Hackerd and Rayburn to score. With Slider on third, a Farmer sacrifice fly brought in the third run off the inning for the Panthers.

However, UMSL would score twice in the sixth to tie the game at 4-4 before scoring three more times in the seventh. ODU had a potential rally cut short in the bottom half of the seventh as Rayburn and Slider both walked to start the inning before a pair of strikeouts and a ground out cut the rally short.

Hackerd led the offense with two hits and a pair of runs score while Farmer had a pair of RBI's.

In game two, the Panthers faced extra innings for the fourth time in six games.

Senior Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) was dealing in the circle through the first seven, getting out of multiple jams without allowing a run. She left the bases loaded in the first getting a strikeout and a groundout, a pair on in the third ending the inning with another strikeout and a groundout before getting out of a bases loaded nobody out jam in the fifth. Barber had a pair of strikeouts and a pop out to close out the fifth inning.

Then with a pair on in the seventh with nobody out, a sac bunt got the runners to second and third. Then, Rayburn threw a Bulldog runner out at the plate and another pop out ended the Bulldog threat.

Unfortunately, Barber had the loss in the circle as a single scored the runner placed on second via the international tiebreaker. The senior went 7.1 innings giving up just the one run, scattering eight hits with six strikeouts and five walks.

The ODU offense had just two hits in the night cap with Hackerd and Farmer each having one.

ODU falls to 6-12 overall this season and will wrap up the spring break trip tomorrow playing Edinboro at 10:15 a.m. and Lewis at 12:30 p.m.
