Box Score 2 AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Ohio Dominican's softball team split their final day in Florida defeating Edinboro 8-0 in six innings before falling to Lewis 4-1 in the afternoon.
In game one, Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Ind.)led the offense with going 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of runs while just behind her was Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) going 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI's and two runs scored.
Sophomore Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) earned her first shutout of the season throwing all six innings and giving up four hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
After a scoreless first and second inning for the Panthers, the ODU offense broke through with four runs, all with two outs, in the third inning.
Then, Hackerd got on with a bunt single, followed by a Rayburn single and a Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) walk to load the bases. Then Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) ripped a double down the left field line to score Rayburn and Hackerd then Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) followed with a double of her own to bring in Slider and Farmer.
The Panthers tacked on two more in the fourth after a Rayburn double that scored Madison Shemwell (Owensboro, Ky.) and Raemon Meents (Downers Grove, Ill.) to make the score 6-0 before the Panthers would end the game in the sixth as Haley Goodburn (Dublin, Ohio) reached on an error that brought in Hackerd and Rayburn.
In game two, the Panthers fell behind early with Lewis scoring once in the first. Then ODU would tie the game at 1-1 as Rayburn began the inning with a single and after a pair of strikeouts, Barber walked and Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) reached on an error that allowed Rayburn to score.
Lewis would then score twice in the fourth and once more in the fifth while the Panthers were unable to score throughout the remainder.
All four Lewis runs were unearned as the Panthers had seven errors in the field and freshman Olivia Rettke (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) picked up the loss going 3.2 giving up five hits and those three unearned runs. Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) threw the final 2.1 giving up just one hit and one unearned run.
The Panthers will return home as they host Grand Valley State in the home opener this Saturday before hosting Davenport on Sunday. The games Saturday are scheduled for 1p.m. and 3 p.m. while the doubleheader Sunday is scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
