Box Score 2 WESTFIELD, Ind. – Ohio Dominican's softball team swept the day on Sunday with an 8-0 win in five innings over Truman before defeating No. 10 Indianapolis 5-4 in eight innings in the night cap.
In the win over the nationally-ranked Greyhounds, Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) had the game-winning RBI in the 8th which scored Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) after Farmer gave the Panthers the lead with a double that scored Madison Shemwell (Owensboro, Ky.) via the international tiebreaker.
The Panthers got on the board early scoring twice in the second as they took advantage of a Greyhound error. Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) singled to left and the error by the left fielder allowed Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) to score.
In the circle, Barber shut the Greyhounds down through the first four innings but UIndy would break loose with three runs in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead.
After a scoreless sixth inning on both sides, junior Raemon Meents (Downers Grove, Ill.) led off the inning with a pinch hit double and after a pair of strikeouts, Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Ind.) singled to short and a throwing error allowed Rayburn to score after she came in to run for Meents to tie the game at 3-3. After a leadoff double from UIndy in the bottom half of the seventh, freshman Olivia Rettke (Reynoldsburg, Ohio), who earned the win, struck out three consecutive Greyhounds to get out of the jam. Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) came on to get the save in the eighth inning allowing one run from the international tie breaker.
In game one, the Panthers used a pair of big innings to close the Bulldogs out in five innings.
Carson Hackerd, Landry Slider and Brooklyn Rayburn all had two hits in the win. Cameron Barber had a pair of RBI's and Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) also had two runs score when she reached on a fielders' choice. Long also earned the win in the circle throwing all five innings and not allowing a run while giving up just two hits to the Bulldogs.
ODU scored three times in the bottom half of the second as Barber tripled to center that brought Slider home. Rayburn would then single to second that brought Barber in to score. A double steal from Hackerd and Allison Fathbruckner (Delaware, Ohio) allowed Fathbruckner to score to put the Panthers up 3-0.
After a scoreless third and fourth while also holding Truman scoreless, the Panthers would score five times in the bottom half of the fifth to close the game. With the bases loaded, Farmer and Slider both walked to bring runs home and a Barber groundout brought Braxton Downs (Prospect, Ky.) home to make the score 6-0. Then Long grounded to the short stop whose error allowed Payne and Farmer to score to close the game.
The Panthers are now 4-6 in the early season after the pair of wins and will have their home-opener next Sunday, March 1 playing Bellarmine with the first game slated for 1 p.m.
