Box Score 2 NASHVILLE – Home runs by senior Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) and Joey Machuga (Canfield, Ohio) backed a complete game effort from senior Garret Sendelbach (Tiffin, Ohio) as Ohio Dominican's baseball team bested Trevecca 12-2 in game two Friday evening.
Senior Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) also hit a three-run triple in the win as ODU salvaged a split in the G-MAC twinbill after falling 7-5 in the opener.
Bland's blow to right-center got the scoring started for ODU in the second inning, and he would also come in to score on an error to put the Panthers up 4-0.
Freshman Manny Vorhees (Wapakoneta, Ohio) hit a sac fly in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-0, and ODU would put the game out of reach in the fourth.
Kaucher's fifth homer of the season was a two-run shot to left to make it 7-1, and four batters later Machuga drilled a three-run blast to left as well, his second round-tripper of the year, to make it 10-1.
That provided more than enough lift for Sendelbach as the southpaw tossed a complete game in his third straight start. He allowed seven hits and two runs while fanning five. He's now thrown five career complete games and improved to 15-11 in his four seasons at ODU.
Kaucher, Machuga and freshman Michael Lang (Cincinnati, Ohio) each had two hits for the Panthers, while sophomore Tim Zeller (Mount Vernon, Ohio) had a hit and walked twice.
In game one, the Panthers rallied from deficits of 4-0 and 7-2 but couldn't come all the way back in suffering the setback.
Kaucher's two-run triple in the fifth trimmed the deficit to 4-2, but Trevecca scored three times in the fifth and sixth innings to grab its five run cushion.
Bland and Kaucher had RBI singles and Zeller a sac fly in the seventh to cut it to 7-5, but one-out singles in the eighth and ninth innings went for naught as the Panthers could not draw closer.
Kaucher went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, but ODU managed just seven hits in the contest.
Junior Brennan Hatten (Fairfield, Ohio) tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
The two teams conclude their series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.
