Stellar Pitching Leads Softball to Sweep of Walsh

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Stellar pitching from freshman Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) and junior Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) led Ohio Dominican's softball team to a sweep over Walsh with score of 6-0 and 8-0 in G-MAC action Thursday afternoon at Panther Field.

Long had her third shutout of the year going the distance for the 14th time giving up just four hits with seven strikeouts in game one while Barber threw four innings giving up just two hits with five strikeouts and a walk in game two.

In game one, freshman Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI's while sophomore Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) was 2-for-3 also with a pair of RBI's and two runs scored to lead the offense.

After a scoreless first, the Panthers were able to get on the board in the second as Smetzer drove in Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) and they doubled their lead in the third as Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) squeezed home Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Ohio).

ODU broke the game open with a four run fifth inning as Bales began the scoring with a single to left center that brought home Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) and Mix. Farmer, the next batter, then singled through the right side to bring home Barber and Smetzer finished the inning singling to center to bring home Bales.

Long faced some trouble with two outs in the fifth inning but was able to get out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout before a perfect seventh inning sealed the win.

In game two, Hackerd was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored while three other Panthers had at least two hits and two RBI's,

ODU scored twice in the second inning to get on the board as Aubrey Rolon (Hilliard, Ohio) singled to right center to bring home Barber and Hackerd singled to center to score Farmer. ODU would tack on a third run in the third before breaking the game open with a three run fourth inning. Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) doubled through a shifting infield on a bunt that brought home Hackerd and Rolon before Slider hit a towering homerun to left field.

ODU would end the game in the fifth as senior Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) had a perfect top half and Farmer doubled and came around to score on a Smetzer single.

The Panthers are back in action on Monday, April 22 as they take on Malone at Panther Field at 2 and 4 p.m.
