Softball Splits Doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan: Win Game One in Twelve Innings

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

OWENSBORO, Kentucky – Ohio Dominican's softball team split a G-MAC doubleheader at Kentucky Wesleyan winning the first game 6-4 in 12 innings before dropping game two 3-2 Friday evening.

ODU goes to 25-15 overall on the year and 15-1 in conference play.

Landry Slider's (Stow, Ohio) single in the 12th inning proved to be the game winner in the 12th inning as she scored Aubrey Rolon (Hilliard, Ohio) with two outs to take a 5-4 lead. Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) added an insurance run as she singled to score Cori Ladanyi (Ludlow, Kentucky) who pinch ran for Slider.

Slider had three hits in game one with an RBI while Barber had a pair of hits with four RBI's in the first game. Senior Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) earned the win on the mound coming in relief of freshman Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) who threw the first 9.1 innings giving up four runs, none earned, on ten hits. Lamping threw the final 2.2 while not allowing a hit or run with three strikeouts.

ODU jumped on KWC in the first with a pair of runs on a Barber single. KWC would answer with a run in the bottom half scoring on a throwing error and ODU would advance their lead to 3-1 as Slider scored on a wild pitch.

KWC would tie the game in the fourth and neither team would score again until the 10th. Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) broke the tie in the top half of the 10th with a double to right center that brought Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) around to score. However, KWC would tie the game again in the 10th before Slider and Barber did their damage in the 12th.

In game two, Barber was able to keep KWC off the board as she only allowed one hit through the first four innings.

ODU was able to break through for a run in the fourth inning with some creativity on the base paths as Ladanyi crossed the plate while Mix was caught stealing at second.

KWC would take the lead in the fifth scoring three runs in the inning off of five hits.

ODU would get the score to 3-2 on a Mix single that scored Bales in the sixth but were unable to get the tying run home.

The Panthers are back in action tomorrow at Trevecca Nazarene with game one beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
