Softball Splits Doubleheader with Ashland

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's softball team split a doubleheader with Ashland this afternoon at the Panther Softball field with a loss in game one by a final score of 4-2 before coming back to win game two 6-5.

Junior Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) led the offense for the Panthers on the afternoon with four hits including a home run and two RBI's on the afternoon.

In game one, Ashland jumped on the board in the first inning before a couple Panther errors allowed the Eagles to take a 4-0 lead in the sixth. The Panthers would battle back with a run in the sixth as Landry Slider (Stow, Ohio) hit an RBI single that scored Kristen Bales making the score 4-1 heading to the seventh.

ODU would get out of a jam in the seventh and a leadoff home run by Farmer gave the Panthers life in the final inning. A pair of hard hit balls found the gloves of the Ashland defense and the Panther rally fell short.

In game two, the Panthers took advantage of a pair of Eagle errors and scored twice as Slider grounded out to short to score Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana) and a Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) single scored Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio).

Ashland would answer with an unearned run of their own in the first before ODU would open the game up with a three run inning.

Farmer singled through the left side that score Mix to and Raemon Meents (Downers Grove, Illinois) hit a sacrifice fly that scored Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio). Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) then singled through the left side to bring Farmer around to score.

After a 1-2-3 bottom of the third, Hackerd hit her first home run of the season to expand the Panther led to 6-1 in the top of the fourth.

Ashland would score once in the fifth and three times in the seventh before a strikeout by Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) ended the game with the tying run on second.

Barber got the win in the circle for the Panthers going 6.1 giving up four runs, three earned with four strikeouts. Lamping threw the last 0.2 to earn her second save of the year.

The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday as they open conference play against Cedarville at 3 and 5 p.m. at the Panther Softball Field.
