Miller, Murdoch Help Softball To Split At Walsh

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NORTH CANTON, Ohio – Behind a complete game effort from junior Bailey Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio), Ohio Dominican's softball team earned a 2-1 win in game two at Walsh on Saturday afternoon in GLIAC play. The Panthers bounced back from a nine inning 5-3 setback in the opener.

It was the second complete game of the year for Miller, who improved to 6-4 in the circle. She allowed six hits and one unearned run and also walked just one batter.

Senior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) provided all of the offense for the Panthers. Murdoch's one-out RBI single in the first inning gave the Panthers (18-18, 5-5 GLIAC) an early lead, and she broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth with an RBI double that scored senior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisconsin).

Miller induced a double play grounder to get out of the sixth inning, and allowed one hit with two outs in the seventh inning before retiring the side.

Murdoch finished 2-for-3 as both teams managed six hits in the contest.

In the opener, the Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Murdoch hit a leadoff home run, her second of the season. Later, a Cavalier two-out error allowed sophomore Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio) to score.

The score remained that way as sophomore Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) allowed just three hits through the first six innings, and the ODU offense tacked on another run in the seventh on an RBI double to center by junior Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio), which brought home freshman Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio).

However, the Cavaliers (8-21, 1-7 GLIAC) knotted the game in the bottom of the seventh. A two-run single started the rally, and a Panther error with two outs allowed Walsh to tie the game at 3-3.

The Panthers stranded a runner at second in the eighth and two on in the ninth, and Walsh hit a two-run walkoff homer in the ninth to take the 5-3 win.

Sutter went 3-for-4 with a walk and junior Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) went 2-for-4 as well to lead the Panther offense. Sutter's three hits matched a season-high.

Lamping surrendered just five hits and two earned runs in her 7.0 innings in the circle.

The Panthers remain on the road for a doubleheader beginning at noon Sunday at Lake Erie.
