NASHPORT, Ohio – Freshman Blake Saffell (Somerset, Ohio) fired a 75 and is tied for eighth place after the first round of the 2017 GLIAC Men's Golf Championship played Friday at The Virtues Golf Club.
Saffell started his day with an eagle on the 537 yard par 5 10th hole and also birdied the 527 yard par 5 16th to card a 39 on his first nine holes. He made the turn and shot an even par 36 on the front nine, including a birdie on the par 3 ninth hole to complete his round.
Senior Austin Goodridge (Lima, Ohio) finished with a 77 and is in a tie for 23rd. He birdied the 10th and 16th holes and shot one-over in his opening nine holes.
Junior Ryan Thompson (Dunfermline, Scotland) registered an 80 and is in a tie for 38th place. He made the turn at two-over and also birdied No. 16.
Overall, the Panthers shot 320 as a team and sit in 13th place following the first day.
The tournament will continue at 8 a.m. Saturday.
