INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Dominican's baseball team challenged No. 22 Indianapolis but came up just short in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader, falling 6-5 in the opener and 4-3 in game two.

The Panthers had a 5-3 lead in game one on the strength of a Colin Kaucher RBI single in the fourth, a three-run homer by Justin Childers in the fifth, and a wild pitch that brought home Genesis Hillard in the sixth.

The Greyhounds came back to tie it with two runs in the seventh inning, though.

ODU had two hits in the eighth but could do no damage, and the Greyhounds walked it off as the Panthers committed a pair of errors in the eighth.

Panther pitchers allowed just two hits in the contest as ODU had a 9-2 edge in the hit column. Logan Brewer started and worked three innings, while Mitchell Bault, Ben Speer and Derek Thobe each tossed an inning of hitless relief.

Childers and Hillard each had two hits for the Panthers.

In game two, Childers had an RBI single in the first inning to bring home Tony Evans, but Indianapolis answered with two runs in the first and one more in the next two frames to go in front 4-1.

ODU crept back in with a pair of runs in the sixth as Noah Bland had an RBI single and Max Banke scored on a wild pitch, but ODU left a runner on base that inning and couldn't take advantage of a bases loaded, nobody out situation in the seventh to tie or take the lead.

Childers went 3-for-4 and Kaucher and Banke each had two hits in the second contest.

Ohio Dominican returns to GLIAC play with a doubleheader against Saginaw Valley at 1 p.m. Friday in Panther Valley.
