Box Score HILLSDALE, Mich. – Ohio Dominican's volleyball team had more kills than host Hillsdale, but dropped a 3-1 (17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 17-25) decision to the Chargers in GLIAC play on Friday night.
Senior Tory Thompson (Quincy, Ohio) had a match-high 19 kills, which also equaled a season-best. Sophomore Kelly Nadler (Leipsic, Ohio) added 16 kills, tying a career-best, while hitting .324, and classmate Patricia Barreto (Findlay, Ohio) finished with seven kills and no errors while swinging .538.
The Panthers (4-5, 1-1 GLIAC) hit .176 in the match, compared to .190 for the Chargers (8-2, 2-1 GLIAC). ODU tallied 55 kills to Hillsdale's 51 and also had a season high 20 block assists.
Hillsdale never trailed in the opening set, then wiped out a 9-7 Panther lead in the second set with a 5-0 run, part of an overall 9-2 burst, to take the 2-0 lead in the match.
The Panthers responded in the third frame, racking up 20 kills and hitting .298. ODU pushed an 8-7 lead out to 20-12, capped by a tandem block from Nadler and senior Jackie Oestreich (Brighton, Mich.). Kills from Thompson and Nadler sealed the set in ODU's favor.
ODU then jumped to a quick 4-1 lead in the fourth, but Hillsdale scored nine of the next 10 points to pull away with the win.
Freshman Bailey Line (Westerville, Ohio) finished with 27 assists to lead ODU. She's recorded 22 or more helpers in the last eight matches. Senior Megan Hendershot (Galloway, Ohio) led the team with 17 digs, with Thompson chipping in 16. Nadler had seven of ODU's 20 block assists, which is a career-high.
Ohio Dominican remains on the road for a GLIAC match at Northwood at 5 p.m. Saturday.
