COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision in extra innings to Malone in game one before falling by a 6-1 margin in the second game against the Pioneers in Friday GLIAC play.

In the opener, ODU fell behind 1-0 in the first but tied it in the fourth as senior Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) delivered a two-out RBI single back up the middle to score sophomore Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio).

The score remained that way until the seventh when the Pioneers went up 2-1. However, freshman Brad Wilson (Alexandria, Ohio) induced a double play grounder to end the inning, and the Panther rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the inning as sophomore Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) doubled and scored after freshman Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) singled to right field.

But the Pioneers answered with four runs in the eighth, and ODU managed just one run in the bottom on a junior Tony Evans (Medway, Ohio) RBI single.

Paterniti and Childers each finished with two hits as the Panthers were outhit 10-7 in the game.

Wilson did not earn a decision as he tossed 7.0 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs. He struck out three and tossed 67 of his 101 pitches for strikes.

In game two, the Panthers fell behind 3-0 through an inning and a half, but answered with a run in the bottom of the second. Sophomore Lee Sponseller (Mason, Ohio) doubled to start the inning, then scored on a grounder later in the inning.

However, that was the only run ODU managed as Malone scored three more times to take the game.

Freshman Derek Thobe (Coldwater, Ohio) threw 4.0 innings of relief and allowed two earned runs.

Ohio Dominican (12-13-1, 0-10 GLIAC) and Malone (14-11, 6-2 GLIAC) conclude their series with a doubleheader at noon Sunday in Panther Valley.
