COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) hit a pair of home runs, but Ohio Dominican's baseball team couldn't protect a 10-6 lead as the Panthers fell 11-10 to visiting Walsh on Saturday.
Originally scheduled for a doubleheader, the final game will be played at noon Sunday in Panther Valley due to rain in Columbus.
Childers finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs after he hit a solo home run in the fourth and a three-run towering shot that just stayed fair down the left field line in the fifth. The second home run put ODU in front 10-6.
Walsh scored twice in the sixth, though, then pulled ahead with three runs in the seventh to go in front 11-10.
Freshman Gage Taylor (South Lebanon, Ohio) started the bottom of the seventh with a sharp single, but the next three Panthers were retired.
Childers' eight home runs are the most by a Panther since Eian Banks hit nine in the 2009 season.
Freshman Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and freshman Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a two-run double.
ODU scored four times in the first, one in the second and twice in the fourth to go in front 7-6 before Childers' homer.
Walsh (23-20, 14-9 GLIAC) outhit the Panthers (18-26-1, 5-22 GLIAC) 15-14 in the game.
