Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team suffered a pair of narrow GLIAC losses to visiting Walsh on Friday, falling 9-5 in extra innings in the opener and 5-4 in game two at Panther Valley.
ODU is now 0-7-1 in extra-inning games and 3-5 in one-run games this season.
In game one, the Panthers jumped to a 5-2 lead. Freshman Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) had a pair of RBI singles, junior Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) hit his first homer of the spring, and Childers cranked a two-run homer to left as the Panthers took that three-run lead going into the fifth.
Walsh answered with three runs in the top of the fifth, though, and scored four runs in the eighth inning to take the win as ODU managed just one hit over the final four frames.
Burson, Kaucher and senior Colman Fitzgerald (Centerville, Ohio) each had two hits to lead ODU.
Freshman Brad Wilson (Alexandria, Ohio) struck out five in 7.0 innings of work.
The Panthers led early again in game two, scoring a single run in each of the first two innings, but couldn't completely answer after Walsh scored five unanswered runs.
ODU tried to rally in the seventh, as freshman Gage Taylor (South Lebanon, Ohio) pounded an RBI double in the gap in right-center, and sophomore Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) lined an RBI basehit back up the middle.
However, a strike out and a fly out ended ODU's rally with the tying run on base.
Paterniti, Fitzgerald and Taylor each tallied two hits for the Panthers.
Freshman Derek Thobe (Coldwater, Ohio) tossed 6.1 innings for the Panthers.
Ohio Dominican (18-25-1, 5-21 GLIAC) and Walsh (22-20, 13-9 GLIAC) will complete their series with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
