Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Colman Fitzgerald (Centerville, Ohio) blasted a double to center field to score senior Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) and give Ohio Dominican's baseball team a 6-5 win over No. 18 Indianapolis in the second game of a doubleheader Wednesday.
Trailing 5-3 entering the seventh, sophomore Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) and junior Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) reached to start the inning, and both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio).
Paterniti then scored on a balk, which moved Burson to third. Horsley followed with a first pitch basehit to center to tie the game, and Fitzgerald crushed a 1-1 offering to deep center to easily score Horsley and end the game.
ODU's last three home wins have come via walkoff hits from each of the team's seniors – Fitzgerald today and Horsley and Austin Greene (Dublin, Ohio) last Wednesday over Tiffin.
Childers hit a solo shot to left field, his fifth homer of the season, to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the first, but Indy scored two runs in the third and one run in the fourth and sixth innings to go in front 4-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Jake Collinsworth (Cincinnati, Ohio) doubled just inside the left field line to score Horsley, and freshman Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) followed with a line drive single up the middle to score Collinsworth and make it 4-3.
The Greyhounds scored once in the top of the seventh to take that two-run cushion before ODU rallied with three runs in the bottom half.
Nine Panthers recorded a hit in the second game, including a 2-for-3 effort from Collinsworth.
In the opener, Burson finished 4-for-4, but the Panthers fell 6-2 to Indianapolis.
Horsley hit a sacrifice fly and Fitzgerald doubled to the wall in right to score Childers and give the Panthers a 2-1 lead, but ODU left the bases loaded in the second inning and hit into a pair of double plays late in the game.
The Greyhounds took the lead with two runs in the third, and a three-run homer in the fourth accounted for the final margin.
Paterniti had two hits for ODU as well.
Ohio Dominican will take on Walsh at 2 p.m. Friday in the first two games of a four-game GLIAC series with the Cavaliers.
