Box Score 2 MIDLAND, Mich. – Freshman Brad Wilson (Alexandria, Ohio) tossed his first collegiate complete game as Ohio Dominican's baseball team took game one of its Sunday doubleheader at Northwood by a 7-2 score. The Panthers fell 8-4 in the nightcap.
In game one, Wilson allowed just three hits while fanning nine. The nine strikeouts are his second-most this season and he improved to 4-2 on the season.
The Panthers opened the scoring inning as senior Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) singled to right field to bring home sophomore Lee Sponseller (Mason, Ohio). A Northwood error helped open the door for two more ODU runs in the third, with the latter coming on an RBI basehit by sophomore Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio).
ODU pushed its lead to 6-0 in the fifth inning on an RBI single by junior Tony Evans (Medway, Ohio) and a two-run single from senior Colman Fitzgerald (Centerville, Ohio) to take a 6-0 advantage.
The Panthers scored another unearned run in the sixth inning to go in front 7-0.
Childers and Fitzgerald each had two hits for ODU, while Evans extended his hitting streak to 10 straight games.
In game two, ODU fell in a 5-0 hole through two innings.
Sponseller smacked his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot to right-center, in the sixth inning, but Northwood countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to go in front 8-2.
Fitzgerald had a two-run single in the eighth to account for ODU's final tallies.
Childers had two more hits for the Panthers, giving him 11 multi-hit efforts on the season.
Ohio Dominican (14-19-1, 2-16 GLIAC) returns home for a doubleheader against Tiffin starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
