COLUMBUS, Ohio –Ohio Dominican's softball team had Grand Valley on the ropes in game two of Saturday's doubleheader before suffering a 2-1 extra inning defeat at Panther Field. ODU fell by a 5-0 score in game one.

In game two, ODU put runners on second and third with two outs in the third. Senior Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) delivered with a two-strike basehit back up the middle to score freshman Kylie Dempsey (Liberty Township, Ohio) and give ODU a 1-0 lead.

GVSU (26-8, 11-5 GLIAC) threatened with a leadoff double in the fifth, but freshman Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) induced a lineout and a pair of groundouts to get out of the inning.

The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the seventh, when GVSU's Jenna Lenza led off the inning with a home run to tie it. The Panthers put runners on second and third with one out in the eighth but could not score, and the Lakers won it with two outs in the eighth with a pair of infield hits.

Lamping was tagged with the loss despite allowing just five hits in her 7.2 innings of work. She did not walk a batter and threw 81 of her 112 pitches for strikes. Lamping has issued just 14 walks in 110.2 innings of work this spring.

Fishel had two of ODU's seven hits in game two.

In the opener, ODU managed just three hits while committing a trio of errors as well.

Trailing 2-0 in the fourth, junior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisc.) walked and went to second on a wild pitch, but was stranded there.

GVSU added three insurance runs in the fifth to bump its lead to 5-0, which wound up being the final score as the Panthers managed just two more base runners.

Junior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) struck out six hitters in 4.0 innings of relief.

Ohio Dominican (17-25, 4-12 GLIAC) plays its home finale with a doubleheader beginning at noon against Ferris State on Sunday.
