Box Score 2 TIFFIN, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team had opportunities in both games at Tiffin but fell 5-4 in extra innings in both contests on Wednesday afternoon.
With the setbacks, the Panthers fell to 0-6-1 in extra inning games this season.
ODU struck quickly in the first inning of the opener. An error in left field allowed junior Kyle Burson (Brunswick, Ohio) to score, and senior Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) followed with a three-run shot to left field, his third of the year, to stake ODU to a 4-0 lead.
Freshman Brad Wilson (Alexandria, Ohio) carried a one hitter into the sixth inning but was tagged with four runs in that frame as the Dragons came back to tie it up at 4-4.
The Panthers put runners on the corners in the seventh with one out, but hit into a double play, then hit into another double play with two runners on board in the eighth.
Tiffin took advantage of an ODU error to score an unearned run in the 10th inning to win it.
The Panthers had 10 hits in the first game, with sophomore Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) and freshmen Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) and Robbie Jobe (Grove City, Ohio) each tallying two hits.
In game two, ODU fought back from a 4-2 deficit with a pair of runs in the sixth inning before surrendering another unearned run to lose in the ninth.
Sophomore Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) and Burson had RBI singles in that sixth inning.
ODU put runners on third base in both the seventh and eighth frames but failed to score both times.
Freshman Derek Thobe (Coldwater, Ohio) made his first collegiate start and allowed four runs in four innings. Sophomore Joe Filosa (Fort Wayne, Ind.) allowed three hits and struck out five in 4.2 innings of relief.
Childers had a pair of RBIs, Burson tallied three hits, and Paterniti had two hits to lead the offense.
Ohio Dominican (12-17-1, 0-14 GLIAC) continues conference play at Northwood with a four-game series beginning with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday.
