COLUMBUS, Ohio — Hillsdale defeated Ohio Dominican's softball team 7-1 in game one and 8-0 in six innings in game two of a doubleheader at Panther Field on Sunday.
In game one, the Panthers were outhit 11-6 en route to a 7-1 defeat.
Hillsdale (14-6, 9-3 GLIAC) got off to a hot start, scoring three runs in the first inning to set the tone and take a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth inning trailing 3-0 with one out, senior Julia Suyak (Trenton, MI) reached first base on a single to the shortstop. A sacrifice bunt by senior Montana Fishel (Gahanna, OH) in the next at bat advanced Suyak to second, then a single up the middle by sophomore Taylor Kline (Bellville, OH) and a throwing error by the center fielder scored Suyak and cut the Panther deficit to just 3-1.
But Ohio Dominican could not muster any more runs and Hillsdale added four runs in the top of the seventh inning, taking the game 7-1.
In game two, the Panthers lost by a final score of 8-0 in six innings. Hillsdale outhit ODU 12-4 and scored five of its eight runs in the fifth inning.
Ohio Dominican (17-21, 4-8 GLIAC) will look to get back on track Tuesday as it travels to Saginaw Valley (20-8, 6-4 GLIAC) for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
