Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ohio – A pair of low scoring games went against Ohio Dominican's baseball team on Sunday as the Panthers fell 3-2 in 10 innings to Malone in the opener before suffering a 4-2 setback in game two at Panther Valley.
In the opener, the Panthers trailed 2-1 heading into the seventh. Freshman Robbie Jobe (Grove City, Ohio) drew a one-out walk, and after a diving catch in the outfield made for the second out, junior Tony Evans (Medway, Ohio) hit a grounder to third. The throw was off target and went into the Malone right field bullpen, allowing pinch runner Noah Bland (Oberlin, Ohio) to score all the way from first to tie the game.
Evans reached third on the play but was stranded there, and ODU also stranded runners on the corners in the eighth inning and left the bases loaded in the ninth. Malone scored on a two-out RBI single in the 10th, and the Panthers again put two runners on board, but could not push across the tying run.
Freshman Garrett Sendelbach (Tiffin, Ohio) allowed two runs on four hits in the first inning, but kept Malone in check the rest of his outing. He allowed seven total hits in 7.0 innings, striking out four while walking just one.
Seniors Colman Fitzgerald (Centerville, Ohio) and Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) each had two hits for ODU.
The Panthers struck first in game two with a pair of runs in the first inning. Sophomore Lee Sponseller (Mason, Ohio) had an RBI groundout and Fitzgerald followed with an opposite field RBI basehit to make it 2-0.
The score remained that way until Malone scored four runs on just one hit in the fifth, taking advantage of four ODU walks, a wild pitch and a passed ball.
The Panthers didn't manage a base runner after the fourth inning as the final 12 hitters were retired.
Ohio Dominican (12-15-1, 0-12 GLIAC) heads to Tiffin for a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 1.
