Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Ohio Dominican's baseball team hung close with No. 8 Minnesota State for five innings, but the Mavericks scored six runs in the sixth and seventh innings to pull away with a 9-4 victory Saturday afternoon at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
The Panthers (3-1) had fought back from a 3-0 deficit early to knot the game at three in the fifth.
Freshman Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) had an RBI groundout in the third that put the Panthers on the board and senior Colman Fitzgerald (Centerville, Ohio) hit his second home run of the spring in the fourth inning to bring ODU to within 3-2.
ODU then evened the score in the fifth inning as sophomore Cody Paterniti (Chardon, Ohio) and Kaucher walked with one out and junior Tony Evans (Medway, Ohio) singled up the middle to bring home Paterniti.
However, the Mavericks (5-2) countered with two runs in the sixth, then opened up a 9-3 lead after plating four runs in the seventh inning.
Senior Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) had two of ODU's six hits and Paterniti drew three walks to lead ODU's offense.
