Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team suffered a pair of defeats to begin GLIAC play as the Panthers fell 5-0 and 13-8 at Ashland on Saturday.
In the opener, ODU managed just one hit, and Ashland scored all five of its runs in the fourth inning.
The Panthers had just two runners reach second base in the contest.
ODU started strong in game two, though, scoring two runs in the first and another in the second. Freshmen Colin Kaucher (Toledo, Ohio) and Genesis Hillard (Cincinnati, Ohio) each had RBI singles and sophomore Justin Childers (Pickerington, Ohio) had a sacrifice fly as ODU took a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles answered with two runs in the second and four runs in the third, then broke loose with a five-run fifth inning to go in front 11-4.
The Panthers scored three runs on an Ashland error in the seventh to pull within 11-7, but the Eagles countered with two runs in their half of the inning.
ODU had 11 hits and drew six walks in game two, but stranded 12 runners on base as well.
Hillard notched three hits and scored two runs while senior Jacob Horsley (Thornville, Ohio) and sophomore Lee Sponseller (Mason, Ohio) each had two hits.
Ohio Dominican and Ashland conclude their four-game series with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Monday in Ashland.
