Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – Ohio Dominican's softball team closed its spring break to Florida in fashion with a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, defeating Bentley 4-0 and Franklin Pierce 10-2 in five innings.
The Panthers went 8-4 in their 12 games in Clermont on the week.
Against Bentley, freshman Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) tossed a complete game three hitter, striking out two and walking just one batter. She retired the first 12 batters she faced, and only one Bentley runner reached second base, which came with two outs in the seventh.
It was Lamping's first career shutout and her fifth complete game in seven starts. She is now 6-2 on the spring with a 2.59 ERA and she has walked just six batters in 56.2 innings.
She helped herself in the second inning with a leadoff double to right field, then came in to score on an RBI basehit by junior Casey Murdoch (Morrow, Ohio) to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
ODU scored two more runs in the third inning as senior Julia Suyak (Trenton, Mich.) scored on an error and Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) had an RBI basehit to extend the lead to 3-0, and senior Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) scored on a rundown situation in the fifth to account for ODU's fourth run.
The Panthers finished with 10 hits in the game, as Murdoch and Fishel each tallied two hits.
The 10 runs against Franklin Pierce in game two was a season-high for the Panthers. They also drew six walks, which represented a season-best as well.
Suyak had an RBI single in the first inning and Albanese had a sacrifice fly as the Panthers took a 2-0 lead, and sophomore Liz Sutter (Mansfield, Ohio) laid down a squeeze bunt in the second inning that brought home Fishel to make it 3-0.
ODU then broke the game open in the fourth, scoring seven runs on five hits, three Raven errors and four walks.
Sutter went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and Murdoch and Fishel each had a pair of hits. Murdoch notched two RBIs, while Kline scored two runs with a hit and two walks.
In the circle, sophomore Bailey Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned the win as she worked 4.0 innings, allowing four hits and one earned run. She struck out three and did not walk a batter.
