NASHVILLE – Ohio Dominican's softball team put the tying run on third base in the seventh inning against No. 3 Indianapolis but couldn't get the final hit it needed as the Panthers fell 5-4 Sunday afternoon.

ODU trailed 5-0 through three innings but began its comeback in the fifth. Senior Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) and freshman Kylie Dempsey (Liberty Township, Ohio) started the inning with singles and sophomore Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) hit an RBI single to center field to bring home Fishel. Senior Julia Suyak (Trenton, Mich.) followed with a sacrifice fly to cut the score to 5-2.

The Panthers took advantage of a UIndy error in the sixth to score another run as freshman Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) hit a sacrifice fly that brought in senior Brier Sanner (Hartville, Ohio), who reached on a two-base miscue earlier in the inning.

Kline then singled to start the seventh inning and Suyak hit a double to left to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Murdoch grounded out to second to score Kline and advance Suyak to third, but a strikeout and a groundout ended the game.

The Panthers (1-7) outhit Indianapolis (7-0) 8-6, facing off against Greyhound All-American Morgan Foley, who had just set an NCAA seven-inning record by striking out 21 batters in a no-hitter against Hillsdale yesterday. Those were the most hits and runs she has allowed this season.

Sophomore Bailey Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) threw 4.0 innings of relief, yielding three hits and one earned run.

Kline finished 3-for-4 and Fishel went 2-for-3 to lead the Panther offense.

Ohio Dominican takes on Southern Indiana and Stonehill to start its spring break trip on Sunday, March 6.
