Box Score 2 EVANSVILLE, Ind. – A late rally in game two came up short as Ohio Dominican's softball team fell 5-3 at Southern Indiana on Saturday. The Panthers suffered a 7-1 loss in the opener, which was the first game of the season for ODU.
The Panthers trailed 5-0 heading into the sixth inning but got on the board as senior Kelsey Albanese (Westerville, Ohio) singled home senior Julia Suyak (Trenton, Mich.) with one out. The Panthers put runners on second and third with two outs, but a pop out ended the inning.
The first four batters reached in the seventh, though, as ODU closed within two runs. Freshman Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio), senior Montana Fishel (Gahanna, Ohio) and sophomore Taylor Kline (Bellville, Ohio) each had infield singles, and Suyak hit a two-run single down the left field line to draw ODU near.
However, a double play and a fly out ended the threat and the contest.
The Panthers outhit USI 11-9 in the game, but surrendered one run in the second, three in the third and one more in the fourth to fall in the 5-0 hole.
Kline, Suyak, Albanese and Fishel each had two hits for the Panthers in the game.
Lamping took the loss on the rubber as she allowed four earned runs in 4.0 innings. Sophomore Bailey Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio) tossed 2.0 innings of one-hit relief.
The Panthers fell behind 5-0 through five innings in the opener and managed just one run in the sixth inning as junior Kelly Wallace (Oshkosh, Wisc.) hit an RBI double that scored Fishel.
ODU managed just three hits and committed four errors in the game.
Ohio Dominican remains on the road as the Panthers travel to Bellarmine for a Sunday doubleheader beginning at noon.
