Box Score XENIA, Ohio – Ohio Dominican's baseball team saw its season come to a close with a 15-3 setback to Wayne State in the third day of the GLIAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
ODU still tallied its best season in the Division II ranks as the Panthers finished with a 30-18 record overall. It's the 22nd time in 28 years under head coach Paul Page that ODU has won at least 30 games in a season.
The Panthers scored first as Jacob Tisevich (North Canton, Ohio) went from first to third on a wild pitch to the backstop, then scored on a basehit up the middle by Lee Sponseller (Mason, Ohio) to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the first.
Wayne State answered with three runs in the second, then broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning to take control.
ODU scored a run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by senior Ronn Bidwell (Syracuse, N.Y.) and put its final run on the board via a bases loaded walk to senior Marcus Schluessler (Zanesville, Ohio) in the eighth.
The Panthers finished with eight hits and drew eight walks, but left 11 runners on base.
Junior Colman Fitzgerald (Centerville, Ohio) finished 2-for-4 to lead the offense.
